Rocking Chair

The rocking chair was the very first piece furniture I attempted to do. Long story short, I failed, horribly. Regardless I put the project in the back of my mind and pursued in my furniture endeavor. Well, that project has been at the back of my mind for quite some time now and I am very glad I finally have something to show.

This rocking chair had many iterations and drawing thrown to the garbage, as well as a tone of research and pondering behind it. Chairs in general are complicated to design, mostly because of ergonomics and fit but rocking chairs adds motion to it all, to add to the complexity.

Inspired by the MCM styles and parts of the Sam Maloof chairs, I made my very own design aiming for a fine balance of clean lines and exposed joinery. All the while keeping it more modern and the joinery appear intrinsic to the design.
